Helping others usually feels good, although you may have some sore muscles or extra dirty clothes to clean or need to give up some time or money. This encourages us and those we help. God clues us in that it is even his design through these words of Paul:
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Even those who may not acknowledge God recognize the value in sacrificing for others, although it may look a bit different. Saturday, October 24, 2015, is Make a Difference Day, sponsored by USA Today. Anyone age eight years and up is challenged to gather a group and create a project that will help a single person, a worthy organization or somehow make a difference in peoples’ lives. In fact, with Make a Difference Day you can win as much as $10,000 for a worthwhile project, with the money being given to a non-profit organization of your choice.
God’s challenge to us is to make a difference for life, not just a day. No promise is made of any particular reward and no age designation…it’s just to be who we are as followers of Jesus Christ. In fact, all of the good we do should cause others to turn toward God.
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:16 (NLT)
We walk as Jesus did. We care about people. We go out of our way to help and encourage, even if it means sore muscles or extra dirty clothes…or giving up something we enjoy. And we lead the way for our kids to make a difference as Christ called us to do. Go ahead and shine!
