The calendar gives us a nudge
…once a year to focus on something that is very close to God’s heart.
Here are 4 prompts to consider regarding the 4 to 14 Window today, April 14th.
It is by looking through this ‘window’ that we understand the character of God. Our Heavenly Father, Who is Himself Love, loves kids! In fact childhood is His invention – He thought it up! His major stamp of approval: our Savior came as an infant and grew up within the protection of a loving family and spiritually healthy faith community.
- It is by looking through this ‘window’ that we learn about the nature of mankind. The most opportune time in human life for spiritual growth comes in that span between the years 4 and 14. Many times major decisions are made during this window of opportunity.
- It is by looking through this ‘window’ that we can focus on a sweeping truth. Although this is not universally true, it is still very common for much of mankind. The world is statistically young – especially in areas with the least Gospel presence.
- It is by looking through this ‘window’ that we glimpse realities that break God’s heart. A huge portion of the world’s 4 to 14ers are at risk from major, life threatening forces. One way or another, our Enemy targets this strategic, vulnerable time in life.
An intentional focus on what you see in the 4 to14 Window will influence your plans, your resources, and your prayer life. Let the view capture your heart – fuel your passions. Whatever your sphere of influence – your family, your vocation, your spiritual fellowship – think young.
One place to start might be a decision to set aside at least 14 minutes every week (every day?) to pray specifically for children. Consider being more purposeful by speaking into the young lives closest to you. You might invest more money in ministries that advocate for the young of your world – of this world.
Why not let April 14 – 4/14 – launch a serious intent to reflect the compassion of our Father in Heaven and let your good works shine light on His mighty deeds on behalf of children everywhere. (Matt. 5:16)
Here’s a passage upon which to meditate: Ephesians 3:14-21. “When I think of the greatness of this great plan I fall on my knees before the Father (from Whom all fatherhood, earthly or heavenly, derives its name), and I pray that out of the glorious richness of His resources He will enable you to know the strength of the Spirit’s inner reinforcement – that Christ may actually live in your hearts by your faith.
“And I pray that you, firmly fixed in love yourselves, may be able to grasp (with all Christians) how wide and deep and long and high is the love of Christ – and to know for yourselves that love so far beyond our comprehension. May you be filled through all your being with God Himself.
“Now, to Him Who by His power within us is able to do infinitely more than we ever dare to ask or imagine – to Him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever, amen!” Phillips Paraphrase
It could be that God will make this more than a once-a-year event.
